Argentinean public activists demand the release of Ruben Vardanyan
The Society for Orphaned Armenian Relief (SOAR) condemned the unjust imprisonment of a well-known philanthropist, following human rights activist Seda Ghulam Fatima.
SOAR’s Buenos Aires office issued a statement on the unjust imprisonment of Ruben Vardanyan in Baku. The public organization demands the immediate release of the famous philanthropist. The document is issued in solidarity with Pakistani human rights activist Seda Ghulam Fatima, who recently announced that she is going to the court hearing on Vardanyan’s case.
«“The SOAR Buenos Aires Chapter expresses its deep concern over the arbitrary detention of Rubén Vardanyan and other political prisoners in Azerbaijan. We call on the international community and human rights organizations to take immediate action to ensure a fair trial and the release of those detained without due process,” the statement said.
Public activists note that Ruben has fought for human rights, justice and peace throughout his career. SOAR representatives called his imprisonment “an attack on all those who work on behalf of oppressed people”.
“We urge the International Red Cross, the United Nations, the European Parliament, and other human rights organizations to intervene in this situation and ensure that Rubén Vardanyan receives dignified treatment and a fair trial. SOAR will remain steadfast in its support for Rubén Vardanyan and all those unjustly deprived of their freedom. We will continue to denounce these human rights violations and work tirelessly for justice and truth,” the document said.
SOAR representatives emphasize that the charges against Vardanyan were fabricated. Numerous international organizations have also condemned Ruben’s trial and are demanding his release.
