Lilit Galstyan: “I propose to send a mission to Baku to ensure compliance with international legal standards and transparency of the process”
Lilit Galstyan, an opposition member of the Armenian National Assembly, member of the Armenian delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, has proposed to send a special mission to the hearings on the cases of Ruben Vardanyan and other Armenian prisoners in Baku. She stated this at the winter session of the organization.
Although Baku insists on the transparency of the process, representatives of international organizations and media are not allowed into the courtroom, the MP stressed. She also noted that Ruben, who has no military background, is being tried by a military court. At the same time, the defendant and his lawyer were not given full access to the prosecution materials.
“Taking all of this into account, I propose to send a mission to Baku to ensure compliance with international legal standards and transparency of the process, to demonstrate the commitment of the international community to the principle of human rights protection,” Galstyan said.
