Ruben’s family is contributing to the construction of a new church in Dilijan

In 2019, at the initiative of philanthropists Ruben Vardanyan and Nubar Afeyan, a basilica began to be built in the city. This spring, work resumed despite the fact that the social entrepreneur himself has been in the Baku pre-trial detention center since September 2023.

“Ruben Vardanyan said at the very beginning of the initiative that it was necessary to build a church together so that it would not be associated with anyone’s name, but would be a house of prayer for everyone. Through the created website, people from different countries can buy their own stone and contribute to the construction,” said Artur Amirkhanyan, project manager.

The new church in Dilijan will be a domed basilica with a height of 37 m. The facility will be able to accommodate more than 300 people. The facade is planned to be decorated with letters of the Armenian alphabet and texts from the Bible.

“The church will not be just a beautiful architectural structure. It is built as a symbol of faith, hope, overcoming difficulties and rebirth. The construction of this church is also a kind of prayer for the return of Ruben Vardanyan and our other Armenian prisoners,” Amirkhanyan concluded.
