Ruben Vardanyan’s eldest son, David, gave a detailed interview to The Armenian Report
David Vardanyan said that when moving to Artsakh, his father, who is currently in the Baku pre-trial detention center, focused on solving humanitarian issues and developing educational programs. For example, during the period of problems with fuel, Ruben Vardanyan managed to get an electric car so that he could drive pregnant women to the hospital.
David Vardanyan also recalled the arrest of his father on September 27 last year, when residents were leaving Artsakh through the only checkpoint in the Lachin corridor. Among them was Ruben Vardanyan, who was illegally detained by Azerbaijani border guards.
“My father was arrested first, but seven others, including three ex-presidents, soon followed. And we must not forget that guys arrested during the 2020 war are being held in Azerbaijan, as well as people who became prisoners of war as a result of the latest military aggression,” David added.
The philanthropist’s son stressed that he worries not only for his father, but also for other Armenians, who are in captivity in Baku. David Vardanyan also recalled that it is necessary to talk as much as possible about political prisoners in order to increase pressure on Azerbaijan.
“These actions are necessary, because we all know that what is happening is completely contrary to all international norms and standards. And we must show Azerbaijan that such behavior cannot be tolerated, especially if the country wants to hold a certain position in the international arena,” the philanthropist’s son summed up.
