A monument to Aurora Mardiganian was erected in Yerevan

The new monument near the Komitas Museum-Institute is dedicated to all victims of the Armenian genocide in the Ottoman Empire and personally to Aurora Mardiganian. The Armenian-American writer and actress, also known as Arshaluys Martikian, survived the genocide but was forced to start a new life in the United States. Ruben Vardanyan’s wife Veronica Zonabend participated in the opening ceremony of the monument.

The foreground of the monument portrays young Aurora who “defeated death and told her story to the world, becoming a symbol of survival for future generations”. She is surrounded by figures of women suffering on the roads of the Der Zor desert.
