Jared Genser: “Yerevan should demand release of Armenian prisoners during negotiations with Baku”

Jared Genser, the Ruben’s international lawyer, has warned that his client and other Armenian prisoners would remain in captivity if Yerevan did not demand their release during negotiations with Baku.

According to the defender, the agreed draft of the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan does not say anything about prisoners’ fate, but in accordance with its terms, the parties undertake to withdraw international claims filed against each other, after signing the document.

“This means that if prisoners are not released by that time, simultaneously with the signing of the agreement, he [Nikol Pashinian, the Armenian Prime Minister] will not be able to raise the issue of prisoners in the future. And this means that they will be trapped in Azerbaijan, and [Azerbaijani President Ilham] Aliyev will be able to do what he wants”, – Genser said.
